This thesis attempts to present a systematic overview of the relation between image and sound. The combination of aural and visual attributes is examined in a wide field of areas, ranging from human perception to artistic practice. The primal aim is to integrate different approaches and concepts related with soundimage- combination into a coherent system. One main focus is set to describe a young generation of artists working with the newest technology to create intense and synaesthetic pieces of art. Furthermore, a new audiovisual performance instrument named add.value is presented and evaluated. A deep link between thesis and work is guaranteed as various methods to combine aural and visual attributes discussed were directly introduced in the design-process.
